Shift4 has unveiled SkyTab, its point-of-sale (POS) system for restaurants, according to the company. Shift4 is a payments technology firm.

SkyTab’s Android-based software “delivers the tremendous potential to upgrade and empower foodservice organizations,” according to a news release from the Allentown, Pennsylvania-based firm.

Included are mobile devices for tableside ordering and payment, contactless/QR code ordering and payment, integrated internet ordering and bookings, eGift cards, built-in marketing tools, and much more.

Additionally, SkyTab includes a marketplace that connects aggregators like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Postmates to the POS system. Restaurants may still take credit card payments thanks to the “hybrid cloud” design even if the internet is down.

SkyTab also offers management capabilities for hotel restaurants, such as connections with various property management systems (PMS), remote menu administration, labor scheduling, and a specific mobile app.

Shift4 Chief Technology Officer Matt Russo claims that SkyTab POS “is the outcome of Shift4’s decades of knowledge as a pioneer in restaurant technology.”

We presently work with more than one-third of all restaurants in the United States thanks to our platform for processing payments and numerous POS brands. We have created a technological platform that provides the tools and capabilities that contemporary restaurants require to succeed thanks to our vast knowledge in this field.

The launch coincides with a number of leading POS companies expanding their restaurant product lines. As an illustration, Square introduced its Square for Restaurants mobile POS in May with the goal of enhancing tableside service and order management.

In the meantime, the movement is in the other direction, with IT companies from other industries trying to focus their offers in the tech suites of restaurants by launching POS technologies or purchasing current suppliers. The introduction of its Oracle Food and Beverage Payment Cloud Service was announced by business software behemoth Oracle earlier this year.
